In Chinese medicine, the lung (fei) is a functional zang system, not merely the biomedical organ. The Neijing calls it the root of qi and the dwelling of the corporeal soul (肺者，氣之本，魄之處也); its bloom shows in the body hair, it fills the skin, and it governs qi and respiration and regulates the water passages.
