In Chinese medicine, stomach qi: in pulse diagnosis, the even, moderate, gentle quality a normal pulse should carry, reflecting the function of the spleen and stomach. The Neijing holds that the normal qi of a healthy person derives from the stomach (胃者平人之常氣也); a pulse without stomach qi signifies grave illness.
