In the Golden Cabinet (《金匮要略》) tradition, subcutaneous fluid retention (溢饮) is a disease/condition described in the Essential Prescriptions (金匮要略, ch.12) — one of the four phlegm-fluid disorders — by drinking-fluid spreading to the four limbs where sweating that ought to occur does not, leaving the body aching and heavy. A historical disease-category for reference, not a diagnostic or treatment guide.
