A collective term for the internal organs in Chinese medicine, comprising the five zang (heart, liver, spleen, lung, kidney), the six fu, and the extraordinary fu organs. The Neijing distinguishes them by function: the five zang store essence-qi and do not drain, and are therefore full but not solid; the six fu transmit and transform food and drink and do not store, and are therefore solid but not full.
