In the《Jingui Yaolue》tradition, this formula is described for an intestinal-abscess (腸癰) pattern: a swollen, lumpy lower abdomen, tender on pressure with a drawing pain on urination, intermittent fever, sweating and aversion to cold. The classics note that once a surging rapid pulse showed pus had formed, downward methods were no longer appropriate. A historical indication, not a modern diagnostic or treatment recommendation.
